An international manufacturing company with a location in the North Okanagan asked Al for help with a review of their safe work practices for a robotic arm. They had two functional robotic arms that they used in their manufacturing processes, with plans to implement an addition thirteen units in the future, and they wanted to make sure that they had comprehensive safety protocols in place. The client’s main concern was to effectively mitigate the high risk of serious injury and/or death, that could occur during improper operation / maintenance of the equipment. The client recognized that they did not have the in-house competence to assess the risks and ensure they were properly managed. Al conducted site visits, interviewed the equipment operators and management, observed the equipment in action, reviewed manuals and documentation, evaluated the training protocols, and identified the regulatory requirements including CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and ANSI (American National Standard Industrial) in order to complete a gap analysis and develop recommendations.
